what kind of church are we?

We keep it simple.

Life in the metro NYC area is stressful, busy, and complicated. We are trying to keep church relatively simple and relational. This is expressed in our church's mission statement:

  • Knowing God means growing spiritually in our UP-ward relationship with God.

  • Growing together means pursuing closer, more meaningful relationships (IN) with one another
  • Showing Christ means reaching OUT to introduce others to Jesus and serve them.

Our core values make us unique.

Every church has its unique flavor; here are some of the values which shape ours:

  • Prioritizing God's word -- We value teaching about God which is based on the Bible, Christ-centered, and has depth and substance while still being understandable, interesting, and relevant to our daily lives. (That's why Bible is in our name; we are not affiliated with the Bible Church movement.)

  • Everyone involved -- We encourage everyone (not just our pastor and leaders) to discover the gifts and purpose God has given them and to find their place in serving God.

  • Welcoming and caring -- We seek to care for one another in practical and compassionate ways and extend that caring and welcoming attitude to others as well.

  • Unity on the essentials -- We are not part of a denomination but rather seek to be a Christian community where people from various spiritual backgrounds and religious traditions can focus together on knowing and serving Jesus Christ as the Bible presents him.

You will also find that we are diverse. Jesus attracts all sorts of people to himself and that is represented at CBC. CBCers come from all over Northern Westchester and Putnam counties and represent a variety of professions, political perspective, ethnicities, ages, religious upbringings, and income levels.
